Hi there! I’m Amie Kaufman, NYT and internationally bestselling author of The Isles of the Gods, Lady’s Knight, Illuminae, Aurora Rising, These Broken Stars, and many more. This newsletter is the place to learn about my latest releases or events, and to follow along behind the scenes as I find my way through writing, and through life.
Hi, my friends.
I’m jumping into your inboxes a few days early for my July newsletter, because I always do my best to let you know my news before anyone else. And do I have news — you’re really coming backstage this time!
You’ve been hearing me talk about “Project RSR” for quite a while now, and it’s finally time to let you know that I have a new book coming out in February!
We’ve just submitted the announcement to Publishers Weekly, where these new book deals are listed. They publish on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so there’s a chance the announcement will go up today, and there’s a chance it will be next Tuesday. Just depends on what else they’ve got lined up! Either way, the news isn’t public yet, so please keep it a secret until you see me post on my instagram account.
Want to know what it’s about? I sure hope so! Those who follow me on insta might remember me asking this question a while ago:
Well, I took you all at your word, and Red Star Rebels was born! Here’s the book’s description:
Red Star Rebels
8 HOURS TO STOP AN EXPLOSION... 8 HOURS TO FALL IN LOVE.
From the NYT bestselling co-author of Illuminae and Aurora Rising comes a high-stakes, high-chemistry sci-fi romp about a stowaway girl and the richest boy in the galaxy, racing the clock to outwit a gang of mercenaries.
It’s 2067, and the Graves family has transformed Mars from lifeless rock into a chaotic patchwork of settlements—and everybody wants a piece.
Enter Hunter Graves: handsome, ambitious, and with spectacularly bad timing. He shows up at the United Nations base just as an emergency evacuation sends everyone scurrying for safety. Except he’s left behind. Uh oh.
Also stranded: Cleo, a sharp-tongued stowaway with no intention of dying today, and even less patience for overconfident trust fund boys. But the enemy of your enemy might just help you survive, so here we are.
Turns out the evacuation was just a cover for the mercenaries who came next, and they plan to blow up the base—and every trace of their crime—in eight hours.
Now, Hunter and Cleo have one shot to stop the explosion, escape alive, and deal with the inconvenient fact that they’re falling for each other.
The clock is ticking.
Wait, you said the book’s coming in February?
Yes! Red Star Rebels is written, edited, and off being typeset. This book is very nearly book-shaped, so you can imagine how hard it’s been to keep it a (sort of) secret! Those who have been around a while know I’ve been sharing hints here for months.
Red Star Rebels is full of action, snark, romance and a very, very opposites-attract odd couple who need each other to survive. Oh, and the whole book takes place over eight hours, so it’s fast-paced, too. I had so much fun researching Mars and writing banter, and I can’t wait to share more about it all with you over the back half of this year. And I can’t wait for you to meet Hunter and Cleo!
Those who follow me on instagram might also remember this series of stories, which started almost exactly a year ago, as I took you along for the ride while I wrote “RSR.” (If you look carefully, you can see I forgot to hide the actual title on the Scrivener file!)
Amie, we love to support you, how can we do that?
My friends, you’re so kind go ask! (Though seriously, let me pause and say that I feel so grateful for you all—that you’re so supportive and such legends that I actually can just come out and tell you what would be helpful.)
What’ll help right now:
Keep an eye on my instagram account — when the news comes out, please help boost the announcement. Like the post, comment, save, share to your stories, etc.

What else is news?
Plenty! Next month I’m going to return to my regular format — you’ll get a proper letter about what I’ve been up to, a recommendation re something I’ve loved, a giveaway, and all the usual. I’m already looking forward to the chance for a chat!
For now, I’ll simply say that the launch of Lady’s Knight has been an absolute delight — so many joyful posts and reviews, so many gorgeous pictures. Meg and I have truly felt the love, and have been talking every day about how happy this book’s launch has made us. It’s been wonderful to share it with all of you.
Thank you so much, as ever, for reading, and for celebrating Red Star Rebels with me. I’m excited to take you along as I count down until February!
I can’t wait to follow you back into space!!! I’ve been so excited for this announcement!!!
