the disconnection of the characters and the growth of the connection between them all by the end! the dynamic between Keegan and Leander is one of my favorites, it's very human
I just finished the whole book in one day after finding it at the bookstore randomly. I've loved everything else I've read by Amie and figured this would be no different and boy was I right. Can't believe I have to wait until September now to continue the journey with Selly, Keegan, and Leander 😂
My two favourite quotes from Isles are as follows: “this voyage is inducing a lot more self examination than I anticipated and I’d like it to stop” and “Everything useless around here is beautifully decorated. I wouldn’t want you to feel left out… and then I tucked a flower behind his ear.” Selly and Leander constantly make me giggle, their humour and comedic timing is so precious. August couldn’t come any sooner :)
There were so many amazing quotes, but I loved this one: “The reason I was leaving was … that I saw a chance to choose who I would be. Rather than existing as the person others wished to make me.”
I love Leander so much, he's the perfect combination of serious and goofy! I especially loved watching how he slowly got Selly to climb out of her shell and really be herself :)
I love reading how Selly and Leander sense the air spirits. There is something so magical and so sensory in this chapter. I love the changes in pace and the vivid descriptions. I love how Selly's connection to the sea and her magical powers come together. I love how she feels seen by Leander.
"I didn't expect a boy from the palace to see me so clearly."
Can't wait to see what happens in, The Heart of the World!
While Leander is my favorite, Keegan is quite possibly one of the most relatable characters I’ve ever read about. His love of books and general neutrality/dislike for romance felt like Amie wrote about me. In general, I adored the dynamics between the characters as a whole. I was fortunate enough to get an ARC of the Heart of the World, and the character dynamics were literally perfect. The found family vibes really complemented the mix of angst and wholesome scenes had me crying multiple times.
Thank you Amie Kaufman for creating a world I adore with every ounce of my being and gifting us Leander.
I loved so much about this book, but the amazing description of the Isle of the Mother was fantastic. A moment that really stood out is Selly sacrificing the paper boat Leander made her and finally being able to connect with the water spirits.
Ahhh! I would so love to win this. <3 Gosh. Ohhh. Favorite moment. Hmm. I honestly just loved all of it, haha :) Will do a re-read before reading book two. <3 But oh. I loved the romance so very much :) I loved how dark the book was as well.
"...every time you preorder a book, an author spares the life of a character you love."
Lies! All lies!
(...but still preorder...)
the cover is so pretty!

I love the character dynamics in all the books you write, and The Isles of the Gods was no exception - especially Selly and Leander 🩷
You made me feel the mist of the waves in the way you wrote this story. There’s nothing better than when you don’t want an adventure to end.

I loved the audiobook and how Leander grew on me, especially near the end. I also loved reading each character's POV!
I like the banter between Leander and Selly
I loved the audiobook, and getting to hear the individual narrators for each character

I love Keegan, especially when we see him from his own perspective. He's a great, complex character.
